Bilateral relations between Moldova and Ukraine have remained a priority for Chisinau's leadership in recent months. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan arrived in Kyiv on Monday, October 26, to continue those discussions.

Tofan is leading a delegation of three cabinet ministers on the working visit. The group includes Vladimir Bolea, the minister of infrastructure and regional development, Anatolie Nosatîi, the defence minister, and Dorin Junghietu, the energy minister. The Moldovan government announced the trip and the accompanying officials through a statement.

The agenda for the visit covers multiple areas of cooperation. Tofan is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Ruslan Stefanchuk, the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. The bilateral talks between the prime ministers will focus on strengthening economic and trade ties. The leaders will also discuss regional security and the paths of both nations toward the European Union.

Energy remains a central topic of the visit. Tofan stated on October 12 that Moldova was considering purchasing natural gas from Ukraine to meet domestic needs. He indicated he would raise the possibility during this trip. This follows a meeting on October 14 between Tofan and Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal. That earlier conversation addressed common challenges in the energy sector and preparations for the winter.

The two prime ministers will also participate in the Kyiv International Economic Forum. The event focuses on investment opportunities and the development of economic cooperation. These subjects align with the bilateral agenda set out by the Moldovan government.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu addressed the situation on the border separately. She stated that Moldova is prepared to receive another influx of refugees if people begin leaving Ukraine due to the severe humanitarian situation. Her comments highlighted the country's readiness to accept new arrivals should those departures occur.

The visit marks a key diplomatic engagement for the Tofan administration. The specific outcomes of the talks with Ukrainian leadership are not yet public. The economic forum will provide a platform for further bilateral and multilateral discussions on trade and investment.
